Freezer Smoothie Packs

So… I love a smoothie in the morning.

But I don’t always have time or the ingredients for exactly what I want… they can be a bit fiddly when you are in a rush.

Here’s one solution I adore.

I like to make a week’s worth in one go so here’s what to do.

Simply gather your ingredients (more on that in a minute) and some freezer bags (oh, and you’ll need space in your freezer.)

Prepare the fruits, veg and whatever else you need in bulk and add the combinations to the freezer bags. You may want to label them unless you love surprises, and pop in the freezer.

You can so easily do this once a week and have a whole week’s supply just waiting to be taken out of the freezer.

When you want a smoothie just empty the contents of a bag together with the liquid of your choice (maybe a nut milk or water) in the blender – Blitz and off you go!

It’s way cheaper and healthier than buying it out everyday and none of that wasted wilting spinach, it is all used super fresh so it retains all of those precious vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients

Well there are multitudes of smoothie recipes online but here’s another way to try.

Experiment using the following method and find out what combos you love.

AND you can use what is easily available to you.

Pick one or more from each of the following categories and add to your bag.

Greens

Choose a large handful of your greens – for example Swiss Chard, collards, spinach, kale, zucchini.

Fruit 1-2 cups

You choose, but how about trying bananas, apple, pear, melon, berries, mango, pineapple…

Power it up with as many as you like from the following list

  • 1 tablespoon of protein powder
  • Small avocado, an incredible superfood
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, great source of protein and energy
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, amazing!
  • 1 tablespoon of raw cacao, a personal favourite
  • 1 teaspoon Maca Powder
  • 1 tablespoon nut butter, yum!

Put your labeled bags in the freezer and just pull out when you want to them, or the night before if you don’t like them so cold.

Add the liquid, blitz and go.

My Favourite (well right now, anyway!)

A quick note on one of my favourites which is super easy…

1 avocado, 1 banana, half a cup of pineapple, large handful of washed greens, a tablespoon of cacao and enough water for a mousse-like consistency. Blend.

(Adding some soaked chia seed will really pack a punch on the protein and energy front!)
