The Secrets to Staying Grounded as a Working Mum

As most of you know, I’m a full-time stay at home Mum to my little boy, and I also run a six-figure earning business from home. Keeping my feet on the ground and not getting swept up in everything I have to do can be challenging at times. Over the past few years I’ve learnt that keeping myself grounded helps keep overwhelm at bay and I can concentrate on the things that really matter. I wanted to share with you my top tips for staying grounded as a busy Mum, because as parents we can be very hard on ourselves when we don’t have to be.

Rise Early
One of my main tricks to getting stuff done throughout the day, is to rise early before the rest of the family wake up. This gives me solid time to power through some of my to-do list without any interruptions. It’s also a great time to fit in any self-care activities like yoga or meditating. By the time the family have woken up, I already feel like I’ve made some accomplishments, so if the rest of the day doesn’t go to plan – it’s totally OK.

Tapping – Emotional Freedom Technique
This is a great technique for removing the negative emotions that limit our potential. It is a really simple technique that can provide quick relief from physical-emotional issues, and it is something I use frequently. EFT uses elements of Cognitive Therapy and Exposure Therapy, and combines them with Acupressure, in the form of fingertip tapping on acupuncture points. Many studies have illustrated that EFT is effective for phobias, anxiety, depression, stress, pain, cravings, fears and other problems. Brad Yates has some great tapping resources if it is something you want to try.

Eating Well
Eating healthily can be the first thing to go out the window when you are overwhelmed, but it is something that will help keep your mind clear and calm in the first place if you are eating right. I make sure I stay on top of eating well with simple, quick meals that I know will nourish my body rather than deplete it. There’s always an easy option such as quick, throw together buddah bowls with whatever is in your fridge, or simple on-the-go smoothies.

Essential Oils
I use my doTERRA essential oils daily for many reasons, but keeping me grounded is a big one! Frankincense, Cedarwood or the Balance and Lavender Peace blends are great for diffusing or applying topically for calming properties throughout your day. On the other hand, if it’s something uplifting you’re after, Wild Orange and Peppermint are great for this in the diffuser. My Introduction to Essential Oils Guide has more helpful tips on using essential oils in the home.

Yoga & Meditation
For me, I know how beneficial yoga and meditation is for keeping my mind clear and calm, but in reality they aren’t practices I get around to everyday. Don’t get me wrong – these are still very important practices that help keep me grounded. I’ve detailed more on why you need yoga in your life here, and why meditation is important in this blog post.
