Calming Natural Sand Playdoh

Having the kids solo mid week definitely has it’s challenges. Especially if I want some time for me, tick a few things off my to do list or if I need to do some things around the house. So I have a bunch of activities up my sleeve that really help when I need some breathing space.

An activity the kids are loving at the moment is playing with my homemade sand play dough!

Regular store bought play dough is chokkas full of nasties and the thing I love about this recipe is it is so easy to make and is made with all natural ingredients PLUS a bonus is the essential oils help to calm down their busy little bodies especially if it’s getting to that time in the arvo when it all starts to get a bit wild 😝

How to make this magic Calming Sand Play Dough!

First add the following ingredients into a bowl and mix well.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of sand {not craft sand}
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 2 tablespoon of cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoon of glycerine
  • 20 drops of a calming essential oil of choice

Then add 1.5cups of boiling water and mix with a wooden spoon.

When cool enough to do so, give the dough a good knead.  Let it cool completely (this will get rid of any stickiness) and then it’s ready for play! Grab a bunch of toy animals and/or cars and let your kids have a ball.

I love using this time to have a cuppa and take a few moments for me to be present or to tick off a few things on my to do list!
