Episode Eighty Eight: Ashleigh VanHouten on the benefits of eating organ meats

Head honcho at the Muscle Maven podcast, health coach, speaker and author, Ashleigh VanHouten, joined me on this episode to talk through her journey and about the importance of eating meat, specifically, organ meats.

Ashleigh discusses with me her journey on making use of the whole animal and eating ‘nose to tail’. She mentions how although she grew up eating meat, she wasn’t used to eating organs and therefore wasn’t yet familiar with the astounding benefits it has on our health.

In this podcast, we talk through why it’s important to challenge the thoughts and beliefs we have about this way of eating, breaking through this and easing our way into it, and the benefits of consistently eating organs such as Liver.

Ashleigh likens eating the less conventional meats to eating the vegetables you don’t like. Maybe you don’t like the taste or texture, but there are ways to improve this with different cooking styles, and at the end of the day it is for our physical health, which is worth a little initial discomfort right?

We discuss the tastiest and healthiest organs, and which to start off with if you’re interested in this approach but are a little intimidated at first. Ashleigh mentions that the liver is the king of the organ meats due to the amount of nutrition it holds.

Ashleigh suggests to be easy on yourself, have some patience and be okay with taking the time out to challenge what you’ve been raised to think. It’s important to prioritise your health and this way of eating may just be the thing that skyrockets your energy levels!

Recommendations are given on ways to source the meat and what you should be looking out for, so stay tuned! Listen to this podcast to learn more.
