Episode Seventy Three: Healing through a chronic disease
During this episode, I chat to Desiree about her incredibly inspiring health journey and how she came to do the work she does today. After suffering from severe chronic fatigue syndrome and adrenal burnout in 2011, at the age of 26, Desiree embarked on a personal journey to help heal herself through natural medicine. Using her body as her own personal lab, she performed experiments based on different dietary theories, medicinal herbs and alternative therapies. She discovered the power of food as medicine and slowly started to heal herself…body, mind and spirit.
Desiree talks about how after many years of thriving and healing, she got to a place where she fell pregnant and had her son. She talks about how she had to adapt mentally and emotionally to the change and lost some of herself in the process. Due to lack of sleep and self-time, everything went out the window. One day her hockey coach came to her and she ended up saying yes to going back to playing. She slipped back into old patterns of negative self-talk and lost sight of what was important. She talks about how she caught a common cold one day due to being under so much stress and it turned into this full autoimmune attack that left her blind in both eyes. She couldn’t see anything but white light which lasted for three months. Desiree talks about how it was so scary but she had this intuition saying this has happened for a reason and for her to figure out what the lesson is. She had lost sight of things so her sight had got taken away, once she realised this her body began to heal, it was a wake-up call that helped her to be aware of her body again in a new light.
