Episode Sixty Two: Resolving old patterns to improve performance and wellbeing

During this episode, I chat to Elisabeth about her personal journey to becoming an expert in using applied neurology to move people out of pain, unwanted behaviour and stress response. Elisabeth shares how her life fell apart in 2018 which resulted in severe chronic pain and began to see the signals that she saw in her chronic pain clients. It was negative outputs from her nervous system that was controlling all of her behaviours. She started researching and began to understand that we need to heal the nervous system using applied neurology.

Elisabeth talks about how burnout is connected to the nervous system, that our brain is wired for survival and its primary job is to make predictions whether it’s safe or not. Your survival is at the forefront of the output and if it’s under stress it’s going to generate protective outputs like pain, exhaustion and migraines to keep you safe. Burnout happens when we hear those softer signals from our body, but when we keep pushing through the pain that our body speaks quietly about first, it then gets louder turning into chronic pain. Your body then starts to shut down and not want to do things.

Throughout this episode, we discuss how to move yourself and the nervous system out of protection mode into performance mode. By starting to interrupt it before it gets to the body switch off stage. Allowing rest and being curious for the signals from your body by really tuning in and listening before it gets to the extreme state. We discuss powerful drills that can help you move your body into a calm state of mind like breathing techniques, visual drills, moving your body and anything that your body responds well to. These can change the nervous system straight away and it’s important to see how your body responds to each exercise.

Elisabeth talks about the signs that your nervous system gives you if it’s out of alignment. Like tension in your body, pain in previous injuries, dry mouth, body posture and any signs that you are moving into threat mode. Elisabeth shares how pain is an output of the nervous system and a clear sign that it’s going into protective mode. Elisabeth offers game-changing techniques to train your nervous system to heal and mind training that we can use to change our patterns. She also shares ways that you can support your nervous system every day.
