Today on the blog we have the lovely Deanne Kalda from Maa organics. Dee is a qualified Holistic Health Coach, Aromatherapist, Organic Skincare Designer, Massage and Spa Therapist. Dee supports her clients to improve their health and wellbeing, feel balanced, happy and ‘alive’ and guides them towards living the life they have always dreamed of. It is an absolute pleasure to have Dee here today and I highly recommend you check out her blog too as she has some great tips!

Why did you decide to study at IIN?

I was so drawn to their philosophy of bio-individuality – the belief that everyone is different and therefore different things work in different ways for different people. That just makes perfect sense!

I love and fully believe in the concept of Primary Food being the key to a happy healthy life. Primary Food is all the things in your life that are not on your plate, like your relationships, your work, physical activity, spirituality, creativity and more. If these things are out of balance all the best food in the world will not lead you to a happier healthier life. I think of primary food as Soul Food.

You must feed your soul in a way that brings you joy, then add healthy food that suits your body and you’re on your way to health and happiness.

What is your goal once you complete your studies with IIN and how do you plan to help people?

I have just graduated and have launched a one on one Aromatherapy Wellbeing program that is fully customised to each clients needs to guides them to making small but life-lasting changes. It includes customised aromatherapy lifestyle blends to support clients on both a physical and emotional level on their journey to health and wellbeing.

It is my passion to use health coaching and aromatherapy to help people reduce stress and restore balance and beauty to their life with a sense of ease and self-kindness and lots and lots of self-care.

What do you eat on a typical day?

My day always starts with lemon juice and warm water to support my digestion and immune system, balance acidity and keep my skin clear.

This is normally followed by a green smoothie with whatever superfoods I feel like. At the moment it’s maca, hemp protein powder and acai, topped with bee pollen sprinkles.

Lunch is often left over dinner or a salad that always has lots of greens and avocado.

Dinner on a work day is usually something easy – like a stir fry, a big salad or in winter a warm nourishing soup like my pumpkin soup I’m sharing with you today.

I also drink lots of water and fresh juices and love indulging in sugar-free carob or cacao bliss balls.

Could you please share your favourite go-to snack on a busy day?

I always have nuts on hand to give me an energy boost when I need it.

What is your number 1 tip for living a healthy life style.

Look after you first. Nourish your body. Nurture your soul. Fill your cup to overflowing, this way you will always be able to lovingly and genuinely give to your family and friends while having all the energy you need for your own wellbeing.

Easy Delicious Pumpkin Soup

Ingredients:

1 very large piece of pumpkin, peeled and cut into cubes

1 tbsp butter

3 cloves of garlic, sliced

1 large onion, roughly chopped

2 sticks of celery, roughly chopped

Water

Coconut milk or cream

Method:

  1. Saute garlic, onion and celery in butter for a few minutes in a large saucepan.
  2. Add pumpkin, stir through well and add just enough water to cover.
  3. Bring to the boil and then reduce heat to simmer until the pumpkin is soft.
  4. Remove from heat and blend until smooth with a stick blender (or in batches in your blender/food processor).
  5. Return to heat and warm up, adding coconut milk or cream to taste.
  6. Serve in a big bowl.

Optional: I love adding some fresh coriander in step one and/or sprinkle with finely chopped coriander when serving.
